In 2023, we embarked on a journey that not only brought us closer to our mission but also connected us with like-minded individuals and organizations around the world in a shared commitment to combat plastic pollution.

With invaluable support from Break Free From Plastic, SOA Tanzania organized a series of brand audit events and cleanups in key locations across our beautiful country. From the bustling streets of Dar es Salaam to the serene shores of Mafia Island, our team, along with 80 dedicated volunteers, rolled up our sleeves to tackle the pressing issue of plastic pollution. we removed 5000Kg of waste from the ocean.

Our efforts were not isolated but were part of a global movement. Together with 97 civil society organizations spanning 41 countries, we participated in the Break Free From Plastic global cleanup initiative. Our aim? To raise awareness about the devastating impacts of pollution on our oceans and environment, and to take concrete steps towards addressing this urgent issue.

The brand audit events were particularly impactful, providing crucial data to inform advocacy efforts and drive policy change. Through meticulous documentation, we were able to identify and hold accountable the companies responsible for producing the plastic waste choking our oceans and harming our wildlife. In total, our collective efforts led to the removal and audit of an astounding 5000 kilograms of plastic waste and the documentation of 6,858 brands from 3,810 parent companies.
