We are thrilled to announce that SOA Tanzania, in collaboration with the Oceanic Society, will be co-hosting the Global Ocean Cleanup 2025 in Tanzania! This impactful event will take place on June 14, 2025, at the Msimbazi Estuary in Dar es Salaam — one of the most critical coastal ecosystems currently under severe threat from pollution.
This initiative is part of the Global Ocean Cleanup, a worldwide campaign led by the Oceanic Society that unites volunteers and organizations from across the globe in a coordinated effort to reduce ocean plastic pollution. The campaign mobilizes thousands of people each year to take direct action in their local communities — removing trash from coastlines, estuaries, and rivers that flow into the sea.

What is the Global Ocean Cleanup?
Launched by the Oceanic Society, the Global Ocean Cleanup is a large-scale, citizen-driven campaign designed to tackle the global crisis of marine debris. Each year, cleanup events are organized simultaneously in more than 30 countries, with thousands of participants coming together to clean coastal and marine environments. But this initiative is more than just trash collection — it’s a movement to raise awareness, gather data on the types of waste polluting our oceans, and inspire long-term behavioral and policy change to protect ocean health.
