SOA Tanzania is thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a significant grant from the Africa Europe Foundation under their 2024 Awards Scheme. This grant marks a major milestone in our mission to empower Tanzanian youth to become active ocean and climate activists. The support from the Africa Europe Foundation will fund the 4th Cohort of our highly anticipated Ocean Bootcamp 2024, a program designed to nurture the next generation of environmental leaders.
This collaboration aligns with the core themes outlined in the “State of Africa-Europe Report 2024,” reinforcing our commitment to equipping young Tanzanians with the knowledge, skills, and networks they need to address critical issues at the intersection of climate change, economic development, science, education, culture, and sustainable finance.
A Strategic Partnership for Change
The Africa Europe Foundation’s dedication to fostering sustainable development and youth empowerment across Africa resonates deeply with SOA Tanzania’s vision. By supporting the 4th Cohort of the Ocean Bootcamp 2024, this partnership will enable us to reach more young people, empowering them to drive meaningful change in ocean conservation and climate action.
Focus Areas of the Partnership
The AEF’s Call for Expressions of Interest was designed to empower youth organizations like SOA Tanzania to lead dialogues and implement micro-projects that address the most pressing issues identified in the 2024 State of Africa-Europe Report. The Ocean Bootcamp 2024 will focus on three priority areas:
- Climate and Development: Exploring the intersection of climate change and economic growth, with a focus on sustainable development practices.
- Science, Education, and Culture: Promoting innovative approaches in education, fostering cultural exchanges, and leveraging science for societal advancement.
- Sustainable Finance: Advancing financial strategies that support sustainable economic practices and empower communities.
About the Ocean Bootcamp 2024
The Ocean Bootcamp 2024 is an intensive training program designed to equip young people in Tanzania with the skills needed to become leaders in ocean conservation, climate advocacy, and community action. Participants will engage with experts, collaborate with peers, and develop practical strategies to lead impactful initiatives in their communities.
Thanks to the support from the Africa Europe Foundation, this year’s bootcamp promises to be our most impactful yet. The program will be conducted in a hybrid format, with online sessions from September 23rd to 27th, 2024, followed by in-person sessions in Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo on September 28th and 29th, 2024. This structure allows for greater inclusivity, enabling participation from youth across the country.
The Impact of the Partnership
The grant from the Africa Europe Foundation will not only support the logistics of the bootcamp but also enable us to expand the scope of our training. We will offer additional resources, including expert-led workshops, mentorship opportunities, and hands-on activities that are crucial for developing practical skills. The partnership will also facilitate greater outreach, ensuring that more young Tanzanians, particularly those from marginalized coastal communities, can participate and benefit from this transformative experience.
