Are you a passionate Tanzanian youth eager to make a difference in ocean conservation and climate action? Do you dream of leading impactful initiatives that safeguard our marine ecosystems and promote sustainable practices? Look no further! SOA Tanzania, with generous funding from The Urban Movement Innovation Fund (UMI Fund), The African Europe Foundation and The Social Change Nest (SCN), is thrilled to announce the call for applications for the 4th cohort of our Ocean Bootcamp.

πŸ“ Location: The bootcamp will take place on September 28th and 29th 2024, in Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo, Tanzania.

Why Ocean Bootcamp 2024?

Since 2021, SOA Tanzania has been dedicated to empowering the next generation of ocean leaders and changemakers. Our Ocean Bootcamp has trained over 154 youth across three cohorts, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to address the urgent challenges facing our oceans. This year, with the invaluable support and funding from UMI Fund and SCN, we are taking our mission to new heights by focusing on the critical intersection of ocean conservation and climate activism.

What Will You Learn?

  • Understanding Ocean and Climate Challenges: Gain insights into the pressing issues affecting our oceans, with a special focus on the Tanzanian and Indian Ocean regions. Explore the impacts of climate change, rising sea levels, and marine pollution.
  • Tanzania’s Commitments and Your Role: Learn about Tanzania’s commitments under the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and discover how you can play an active role in achieving these targets.
  • Global and Local Campaigns: Dive into national and global campaigns like the “Defend the Deep-Sea” initiative by SOAlliance. Learn how to engage with these movements and create impactful campaigns of your own.
  • Field Experience: Travel to our project restoration site in Bagamoyo, where you will plant mangroves, engage with local coastal communities, and learn firsthand how to tackle ocean and climate challenges.
  • Skills for Activism: Develop practical skills in ocean and climate activism, empowering you to lead and advocate for sustainable solutions.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Tanzanian Citizenship: You must be a citizen of Tanzania.
  2. Age Requirement: You should be between 18-35 years old.
  3. SOA Tanzania Membership: You must be a registered member of the SOA Tanzania community. Not a member yet? No problem! You can easily join our community by registering here.
  4. Passion for the Ocean: You should have a strong interest in ocean conservation and be eager to become a changemaker in your community and for our planet.
